What is VoIP phone?

voip phone

When is a phone not just a phone? When it’s a VoIP phone! But what exactly is a VoIP phone and how can VoIP benefit you and your business?
Without wanting to confuse you completely, let us explain. An ordinary phone system relies on what is known as the public switched telephone network (PSTN) otherwise known as POTS – the plain old telephone system which has existed since 1876 and which remains the basic form of residential and small business service connection to the telephone network in many parts of the world. Since the inception of the internet, telephones and technology have moved on exponentially and we now have IP telephony or Voice over Internet Protocol commonly known as VoIP.

So, what is it?

VoIP is a method and group of technologies put together to deliver voice communications (or just plain old conversations to you and I) and multimedia sessions (voice, video or data) over Internet Protocol (IP) networks – which basically means the internet. In easy terms this means that your calls are sent via your internet connection and means that you can have as many calls without installing extra lines as you like. You’ll also have a physical VoIP phone which looks like an ordinary telephone or cordless phone, but which is actually a simple software- based softphone or one which can be a purpose- built hardware device

Benefitting your Business

(And what’s in it for you to make the switch?)
Now that many of us are working from home and our workplaces have changed vastly from what we might have been used to, the VoIP system is ideal. There are many features that’ll make your working life so much easier including voicemail to e mail, call groups and you can even use the phone via a mobile app or when you aren’t at home as long as you have an internet connection. So ideal if you’re out and about and as you’re using the internet to make your calls, the cost is extremely low.
The system will also allow you to multitask which will make you super productive. You are able to forward messages and voicemails to multiple people at the click of a mouse and read voicemail to text transcriptions all while waiting in the inevitable call queue to your electricity company.
You can also choose how and where your calls will ring. Calls can be forwarded to your office or your mobile or even your laptop if you aren’t in the vicinity of the phone, so you never miss a call.
